Now That’s Pre-Code

I haven’t seen Baby Take a Bow (1934), so don’t ask me why Shirley Temple is cutting this guy’s head off.

I could tell you but I might be before the courts. And I have the film and seen it. The song Baby Take Bow is not in this film which along the line has been colorized but rather from an earlier one where she first appeared in a Fox musical, Stand Up & Girl with a host of Fox stars in 1934. Clips from Stand Up & Cheer were used in 1940 in Young People, her last TCF film before the contract lapse.

I have seen it as well. I’m pretty sure that is Ralf Harolde and Shirley’s father
has tied him up as he is a jewel thief – he has convinced Shirley that he is
“daddy’s friend” and daddy has tied him up for a gag (James Dunn was always
joking around in the movie) so Shirley is trying to cut him loose with the only
utensil she has at hand – a giant knife!!
